12/11/09. Another Merc in the stable! Were have my Italian values gone I hear you ask. Well there's a reason for this one. Well a couple actually. We have decided to sell the CLK as although my Wife really likes it, she is having trouble getting out of it due to an illness. She has decided she would like another Grande Punto but as the "Evo" version is not due here until late January the plan is to sell the CLK now and drive something a bit cheaper to use until the Punto arrives. She also needed an auto. Now, I have a real soft spot for the CE's, I find them timeless, they just don't seem to age in my eyes so once the decission was made I spotted this CE and thought to myself, "Mmm, Missus can drive it as it's a bit higher than the CLK and then come January I can blag it for myself". 2 birds with one stone and all that... It's a 1992, completely standard throughout, with 128K on the clock. Now it's not perfect, it has a few little spots of rust and the drivers seat has a little rip on the bolster. But it drives perfectly. It's very quiet with no thumps over or lovely roads and for some reason feels really quick. It's a very nice car to drive, and unlike the last CE I had the interior although cloth is actually ok to live with. Lorna can get out of it ok to so that helps. Almost everything works to, well apart from one window switch (which my mate Neil is sorting for me, ta Neil) and one of the headlight wiper arms has rusted to almost nothing. That's about it really. I've no idea how long I'll keep it but while it's here it will be used and enjoyed.
31/12/09. The CE has the making of being a really nice car. It drives really well and the engine is very sweet. Under normal circumstances I would keep it but as I'm cutting back a lot I have to be sensible and let it go come 2010. Oh well...
