My family decided that as much as they all loved the Range Rover there wasn't enough seats in it as they would like to take their friends out to places with them. All very well but I really liked the RR and I knew if I sold it I wouldn't find another as good, plus I needed something to tow with, well that was my excuse as I do very little towing but like 4x4's now. I started looking at Land Rover Discoverys but couldn't find one to suit. Then by chance a mate put me onto this ML. 2.7 diesel engine, 7 seats (in tan leather) and a full service history. I went to look at it last week and after driving it decided it would do the job I need it for. Only things wrong with it are a broken door indicator, a fog light trying to fall out and the interior is really grubby and smells of wet dog. So a bit of cleaning to be done.

First little bit I bought for it was a number plate surround for the rear. I think it tidies the rear up a little.

And I had it fitted in no time.

09/10. The first real job was to clean the inside of the car. The leather was really dirty, certainly the worst I've ever seen in a car of this nature. I have to say to that the quality of the leather isn't as good as the Range Rovers. Anyway got stuck in at 9AM and didn't get done until just after 6PM. Seats had to be washed down with Autoglym leather cleaner and using one of those sponges with the green scouring bit on them. I had to be very gentle using that so I didn't damage the leather. The carpets I had to steam clean including the boot. The result was worth the effort though.

18/12. Certainly was expecting to wake up to this sight this morning. (after note, turns out we are having the worst weather we've had in 47 years. So far since the snow fell 22/12, the average temperature has been -8 with lows of -12.5, a bit cold)

15/01. New year and time to give the car a bit of a service. I say a bit because when I went to change the oil I relaised I didn't have enough so I'll have to wait to next weekend to do that. I did get the fuel filter and airfilter done though.

23/02. Left the car in with a Mercedes specialist today as one of the diesel injectors has started blowing out and the windscreen demisterhas stopped blowing air to the screen a couple of weeks ago which is a pain. I left it in as I just don't have time at the moment to do everything and its a car I don't know enough about to work on in this way.

25/02. Got the car back today, only because I didn't have time to lift it yesterday. All the seals in all the injectors were replaced along with their bolts, engine was cleaned, a new motor for the flap to the screen blower fitted and checked the ecu for any faults in system. None found. Car is driving like a sports car now. Good job well done.

12/03. Got an early booking for the mot as it ran out yesterday and I'd not had time to get the car in for it. Underneath washed and headlight alignment checked and over I went. I always like to make sure I've as much right with a car that I can do before an mot but this time I'd just no time to check the car over so I wasn't confident. It passed with the only comment being about the broken indicator lens letting in water on the door mirror. I came straight home and ordered a new one 'which I've been meaning to do anyway'. So that's that one sorted for another year. I'm afraid the photo of it up on the ramp didn't come out to well, looks like I had a shaky hand.

15/03. The passenger door mirror indicator hs been cracked since I bought the car but until now I never got round to buying a new. well a new one arrived today. I hope to get it fitted at the weekend.

18/03. Ok I've been told it takes no more than 10 minutes to change the indicator unit in the door mirror so since I had 20 minutes to spare I decided to have a go.

The first step is to pop the mirror casing off the frame. This is done by locating a little metal plate in behind the glass and pushing it in with a flat head screw driver.

Once this is pushed in the complete mirror housing starts to move away from the door. It comes off by gently pulling it away from the door and over the glass. It needs gently coaxed but will come off.

And off it comes.

The indicator unit is held on only with hexy screw.

Old and new together.

It took just under 10 minutes just as I was told and was a very easy change.

20/04. I've had squealing brakes for a week now but all the pads have plenty of life in them. It was driving me mad however so I changed all the pads. No squealing anymore.

23/07. Since I had the use of the vax I took the opportunity to clean the carpets of the car. boot floor.

drivers footwell.

passengers footwell.

Rear footwell and the mats.
